The field work is complete with the fiber installed and spliced. The CO equipment is ready and the vendor has provided training for key staff. Now it is time to start moving customers to the new network. The question is how to best implement this portion of the project.

In its recent “PON and FTTH Subscribers” report, Infonetics Research noted that while GPON represents the most immediate growth opportunity, annual port shipments for the emerging WDM-PON segment are expected to grow at a 41% compound annual growth rate between 2007 and 2011. Much of this growth will come from the Asia-Pacific region, the analyst firm says, thanks to early WDM-PON adopters like Korea Telecom.
