Qwest touts FTTX Internet milestone

Qwest Communications International Inc. has announced that it can now offer its FTTX-based Internet services — with connection speeds of up to 20 Mbits/sec – to more than 1 million potential customers in 18 markets.

The milestone was reached as Qwest expands its fiber-to-the-neighborhood architecture.

The carrier’s Qwest Connect Quantum and Qwest Connect Titanium Internet offerings deliver connection speeds of up to 20 and 12 Mbits/sec, respectively. Qwest plans to offer the FTTX technology to 1.8 million potential residential and small-business customers by year-end in 20 markets. The service are already available in selected areas in the following markets:

  • Tucson, Ariz.
  • Denver
  • Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • Fort Collins, Colo.
  • Boise, ID
  • Des Moines, ID
  • Minneapolis-St. Paul
  • Omaha, Neb.
  • Albuquerque
